Hiển nhiên là hệ thống quyền lực bảo thủ Ca-Tô có lý do để nuôi dưỡng những huyền thoại về Mary và ủng hộ việc giữ nguyên hiện trạng của sự sùng tín Mary của họ. Giáo hội Ca-tô Rô-ma vẫn cương quyết duy trì tín lý về tội tổ tông gian lận lồng vào thế giới bởi người đàn bà đầu tiên, và tồn tại qua “tai họa của Eve”.

Khi thời gian mãn, tôi tin rằng hình ảnh Mary, mẹ của Giê-su Ki-tô, sẽ mờ đi. [Yet faith also needs to involve some measure of morality beyond belief in a pure abstract principle. It needs to be built on trust and confidence, the fidelity of promises given honestly and openly, otherwise there is no point in having it. If faith is founded on lies, deceit and calculated manipulation, then it becomes impossible to justify and there even a question mark against whether it can reasonably be called faith. Were we still the largely ignorant and superstitious flock in whom the Marian deception first took root and in whom it became twisted into an “infallible truth”, we might have an excuse for being taken in by it. But at the dawn of the twenty-first century, many of us can no longer claim to be ignorant or superstitious and our blinkered faith becomes open to more serious criticism. This is particularly true when we know that bigotry is involved and that our understanding of a fictious Mary has been controlled by men with vested interests, determined to safeguard their own patriarchal social position in the name of religion.

Faith is not universally practised at the same level. Millions of Catholics, in South America for example, are largely uneducated and their faith in Mary remains almost a blind one. There are also ranks of highly educated men in the church who know the extent of the manipulation and deceit and choose to perpetuate it…

The conservative male hierarchy of Roman Catholicism clearly has reason to nurture the Marian myth and to support the status-quo in her cult. The Roman Catholic Church remains firmly committed to the dogma of original sin foisted on the world by the first woman, and perpetuated through “the curse of Eve”…

In the fullness of time, I believe that the image of Mary, the mother of Christ, will grow dim. Her portrait has been carried down to us on the wings of an enduring myth but even the best of myths tend to fade with the passage of time… She may be able to claim some element of historical truth but she is mostly a fable, a gross deception. In part, it has been perpetrated to suit the self-seeking demands of the few.]

Vấn đề của chúng ta ngày nay là, sau khi đọc cuốn Hành Trình Và Truyền Giáo của Alexandre de Rhodes mà tôi vừa trích dẫn vài đoạn điển hình ở trên, chúng ta cần phải đặt câu hỏi: Đức tin được tạo thành từ cái đạo lý Thiên-La Đắc–Lộ có phải là một đức tin đặt căn bản trên những lời nói láo, dối trá, và những mánh khóe có tính toán hay không? có thể biện minh được hay không? và thực ra thì đó có thể gọi là đức tin hay không? Tôi nghĩ câu trả lời đã thật rõ ràng.
